Hearing sessions now closed

Apr 26, 2018

The hearing sessions are now closed, so the Inspectors will only request additional information that they consider to be essential to inform their consideration of soundness or legal compliance issues. They will not be accepting any unsolicited material or further statements from participants in the examination.

At the close of the hearings the Inspectors asked the Councils to supply to them by 13 April 2018 any outstanding information and a list of potential main modifications to the Joint Local Plan. The Inspectors indicated that they may set out interim findings at a date to be confirmed. Please continue checking the Plymouth and South West Devon Joint Local Plan: Examination page for all updates.

Revised dates and venues for the Plymouth and South West Devon Joint Local Plan examination hearings

Mar 07, 2018

Following the recent postponement of hearing sessions due to bad weather, please see the latest revision of the Inspectors' Draft Hearing Programme V5 (EXC8D) on our Plymouth and South West Devon Joint Local Plan: Examination page. This programme contains details of the rearranged Matters 8E (Wednesday 21 March) and 8F (Thursday 22 March) and a minor amendment to the timing of the Matter 12 hearing.

For practical purposes it has been decided by the JLP Councils to hold all Week 4 hearings in Plymouth at the New Continental Hotel. The Inspectors have agreed to this suggestion.

The JLP Councils considered whether hearings could be held in Tavistock, Totnes and Plymouth, but felt that moving all of the Examination Library, documents and other equipment between three venues over three days would be impractical. The Councils therefore decided to hold the hearings in Plymouth as an easily accessible location and to make arrangements to webcast the hearings so that members of the public can observe the sessions without travelling to Plymouth. The Councils will also investigate whether it will be possible to also show the hearings in rooms at Kilworthy House in Tavistock and Follaton House in Totnes. More details on these arrangements will follow when they are available.

If you have any queries about these arrangements, please email plymouthplan@plymouth.gov.uk or strategic.planning@swdevon.gov.uk or call 01752 305477.

The economy, employment land, retail development and the three strategic growth areas of Plymouth are being discussed at the ongoing public examination into the Plymouth and South West Devon Joint Local Plan.

Plymouth City Council, South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council submitted the draft plan to the Secretary of State in July and now planning inspectors Wendy Burden and Yvonne Wright are reviewing the details to decide whether or not it is sound.

The examination is hearing from people and organisations who are seeking changes to the plan.

The examination continues at the Ballroom, New Continental Hotel, Millbay Road, Plymouth.
